Mandalay

The last royal capital of the Burmese Kingdom, today Mandalay is the cultural and religious heart of Myanmar. It is home to sparkling pagodas, monasteries and the world’s largest book.

The 'book', consists of an astonishing 729 marble slabs of Buddhist scriptures. It is found at the impressive Kuthodaw Pagoda site.

Nearby is the U Bein teak bridge and the remains of four ancient former capitals. An interesting additional to a holiday is a cruise along the Irrawaddy River between Mandalay and Bagan.
