Our team of holiday experts have compiled a list of answers to our most frequently asked questions to help make planning your next family holiday even easier. If you have a question we have not answered here, please contact us and we would be happy to help.

About Our Holidays

  1. What’s the difference between a group tour and a tailor-made holiday idea?

On a small group holiday, you’ll join other Families Worldwide families on a set itinerary, departing on the specified date of the tour.

If you’re a large family or a group of family friends, we can dedicate one of our group tour departure dates just to your booking. We can also arrange private, flexible departures on the majority of our small group holidays. Please speak to our team to discuss the options.

Alternatively, if you wish to enjoy a private holiday just for your own family, the tailor-made trip ideas on our website provide inspiration for us to arrange your own tailor-made holiday with us.

  2. Where can I get more information about a specific trip?

We have detailed travel plans for all our trips available for you to download on our trip pages. As well as the day-by-day itinerary, each travel plan has lots of additional information about our company, the accommodation, ideas for how you can extend your holiday and how to book.

  3. How big are your group tours?

Our group sizes vary per trip, and on average are between 8-10. Naturally, some of our trips are more popular than others, and some are designed to accommodate larger groups of people. However typically for our long haul trips, we tend to work with a maximum 3 or 4 families of 12-15 passengers. However, many operate with 6 – 8 passengers, or even just one family.

Our shorter haul trips, and those that are single-centre based (like Finland or Croatia), can accommodate larger groups with a maximum of five or six families of up to 15-20 people.

  4. Are your trips suitable for single parents?

Many of our clients are single parent families, all of whom are keen to travel with other families. If you’re particularly keen to be on a tour that has another single parent family, we can advise you which of our departures would be most suitable for you.

  5. How fixed are the ‘ideal ages’ listed on each itinerary?

We give all of our holidays an age range to help you select trips that the whole family can enjoy, allowing everyone to get the very most out of the holiday experience. Our suggested age ranges are only a recommendation as there can often be wide age differences of children within the same family, and very different abilities of the same aged children across different families.

If your family includes children outside of our suggested ages, please contact us to speak with one of our family travel specialists who will happily discuss the suitability of this trip, specifically for your own family.

  6. At what age do I need to pay the adult price for my child?

We’re committed to providing reduced rates for children and teenagers and will always pass on any reduction wherever we are able to.

For example, most airlines provide a reduced price for children aged up to 11 years old, and teenagers aged up to 15 years old, and we’ll always pass these reduced flight prices.

Overseas, most accommodations and activity providers will charge passengers aged 12 and above an adult rate. However, some of our trips have reduced prices for specific room sharing arrangements, so please speak with one of our family travel specialists who will happily discuss the options available.

  7. Is every group tour departure guaranteed to run?

Although we need a minimum number of participants to run our group tours, we’ll always try to run every scheduled group tour departure, even if you’re the only family booked.

We’ll tell you if you’re the first family to book on to a departure and explain your options at that time if we do not subsequently book the minimum number of passengers, which may include running a private, flexible departure for your family.

Look out for ‘guaranteed’ on our dates and prices tables.

  8. Do you run trips outside of the school holidays?

Children’s school holiday dates vary throughout the UK (as well as for our international family customers) and we try to schedule our group tour departures during the European school holidays.

However, all of our holidays can be tailored to suit your exact requirements and choice of dates throughout the year, so please enquire if you’re looking to travel on any other dates.

  9. Do you have special offers?

Our latest booking offers can be found on our website. From time to time we feature special offers on our holidays including early booking and last-minute deals. View all our special offers or sign up to our e-newsletter to be the first to know about our latest offers

Holiday Planning

  1. When is the best time to book a family holiday?

Look ahead, book ahead is our honest advice if you want to save money and stress. For long-haul travel or trips with several elements the further ahead we recommend you plan and book.

Some of our most popular destinations book up incredibly far in advance – such as Namibia or Iceland self-drive adventures, which we recommend booking a year ahead.

Our most popular trips also book up quickly too – especially Croatia, Slovenia and Costa Rica – so it’s worth being one of the first families to book and guaranteeing your place.

We’ve compiled our top tips for getting the best value on your trip in our  Look Ahead, Book Ahead blog.

  2. Can I extend my group tour holiday?

Yes of course – it’s your holiday!

We can extend all our group holidays, either by adding a few days at the start or end of your trip. All of our groups tours suggest extension ideas for you, and many of our families choose to do this. Whether you wish to spend some time relaxing on the beach, continuing your journey to discover more of the country, or stopping off for a city-break in another country en route – we’ve organised all sorts of extensions for many families, and we can do the same for you.

  3. Can grandparents come on your holidays?

Absolutely – in fact, multi-generational family holidays are becoming increasingly popular.

We offer several trips that are perfect for all the generations – so whether you’re looking for a safari in Africa, soaking up the scenery and culture of Asia, or looking for an Active adventure in Europe, we have a handpicked selection of itineraries to suit all the ages of a large family group.

  4. What’s involved in booking a tailor-made family holiday?

If you prefer to travel on a date of your choice with your own family group, then a private tailor-made family holiday might suit your needs better than a group tour.

All of our holidays can be adapted to become a tailor-made holiday for your family – for example you might wish to visit a particular location, stay in specific accommodation or take part in some different activities.

Ultimately, when planning your tailor-made holiday we listen to your needs, share our advice, and create an itinerary that’s based on your requirements, to meet your own specific needs and expectations. Just talk to our expert team for inspiration and ideas. Our expertise gives you the flexibility to create precisely the family holiday you wish for.

  5. Is my money secure if I book with you?

Absolutely. We’re a fully licensed Tour Operator so you can book your holiday with us in confidence.

We’re part of The Natural Travel Collection, a fully-bonded and licensed tour operator, who hold an Air Travel Organisers' Licence (ATOL 10544) granted by the Civil Aviation Authority to protect your money on all flight-inclusive holidays.

We’re also a member of the Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust Limited (ABTOT) providing financial protection for any flight exclusive holidays.

  6. Do I have to book my flights with you as well?

Not at all, many of our families choose to book their holiday with us on a ‘Land Only’ basis.

If you choose to do this, we’ll simply require your flight details – and to keep us informed of any changes – so that our overseas team are ready to meet (and return) you to your airport on time. If you prefer to book your flights with us please contact the team for a quotation.

  7. How do I find out the price of a holiday including flights?

On our website, we advise ‘from’ prices for each holiday including flights, which should be viewed as a guideline for the trip.

Please kindly note that we prepare our prices several months ahead of travel dates, and our flight-inclusive prices are provided as a general indication, based upon the flight costs at the time of publication. Your quotation may vary, based upon the prices of flights (and their availability) at the time of your enquiry.

Please note that we’ve recently seen significant increases in many airfares and so we recommend booking early to secure the best prices.

  8. Can I request a specific room type?

We can arrange family, twin, double or triple rooms on most of our tours. If you have a preference, please let us know at the time of booking and we’ll do our best to arrange this. We can also often arrange interconnecting or adjacent rooms if requested.

  9. Do I need to arrange travel insurance?

We strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance at the time of booking your trip as cover will commence from the date you purchase the insurance and covers you in case you need to cancel for an insured reason such as illness or serious accident preventing you from travelling.

  10. Will my family need any visas?

That depends not only on where you are travelling to, but also on your own nationality.

Most visas are fairly straightforward to apply for, but we strongly recommend checking the visa requirements on the FCDO website (if you’re travelling on a British passport) and the embassy of your holiday destination (including any that you may transit via) before booking your holiday.

  11. Will my family need vaccinations?

That depends on where you’re travelling.

Some vaccinations may need to be pre-booked with a planned vaccination schedule, and there may be a charge.

We strongly recommend checking the vaccination requirements for your destination before booking your holiday, in the event that the requirements affect your decision to travel to your chosen destination.

Once you’ve booked your holiday, we also recommend you speak to your GP or travel clinic as they’ll have the most up-to-date information for you.

Your Holiday Experience

  1. What will my group be like?

Every departure is different, but on a full trip you can expect to travel with two to four other families. You can ask when you book about the current confirmed bookings, and we’ll be happy to give you an idea of the size and ages of other families booked.

Occasionally, it may be just your family on a tour, so you’ll be getting a private experience at no extra cost.

  2. Will I have free time to relax with my family?

All our trips are designed to allow for some free time so that you can go off on your own as a family; you might want to try some extra activities or just relax and have fun together – it’s up to you.

Our group tours allow for extensions where you can stay a little longer after your tour to take advantage of a beach or city stay. Please speak with one of our family travel specialists who will happily discuss the options available.

  3. Will we have a pool?

Wherever we can, we use accommodations with swimming pools, however in some areas this is simply not possible. Whether there’s a pool or not, there may be the opportunity to swim in the sea, a river or even a lake.

  4. I’m not as active as my children; can I opt out of certain activities?

Yes. Activities that are included in the itinerary are optional, and it may be possible to just watch, stay at the hotel or do some independent exploring. Our only requirement is that at least one parent or other adult in your family group accompanies any children or teens still participating in the activity.

  5. My child has a food allergy can this be catered for?

We try to accommodate all food requirements, so make sure you advise us at the time of booking.

Although we endeavour to have alternative options available, it may be difficult to determine if foods are 100% allergen-free. Therefore, we advise that you take the same precautions as you would when eating out in your home country, and as a precaution maybe take along snacks that you know are safe.

  6. Are there meal options for vegetarians, vegans and other special meal requests?

Whilst vegetarian and veganism are very popular in the UK – and increasingly well catered for - the options may be more limited in overseas destinations.

However, vegetarian options are usually available, and most picnic and buffet-style meals will have lots of salads, rice dishes and breads.

Unlike big vegetarian destinations like India or South-East Asia, some countries do not traditionally offer a wide range of options for those that do not eat meat, so please speak with our family travel specialists who will happily discuss the options available.
If you have any special meal requests or allergies, please let us know when you book your holiday so we can inform our overseas partners.
