This activity holiday in Oman has so much to offer families, with beautiful mountain scenery, sweeping wadis, vast deserts and historic forts. Go dolphin watching and snorkelling, swim to hidden caves and look for turtles at Sur Beach (seasonal).

Try sand boarding in the desert before making a splash in the waterpools of Wadi Bani Khalid. You can also walk part of the Balcony Walk at Jebel Shams.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart UK

    Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Muscat.

  2. Day 2: Arrive Muscat, afternoon city tour

    After a few hours to rest at the hotel and enjoy lunch, head out on a city tour this afternoon of Oman’s capital, Muscat.
  3. Day 3: Dolphin watching tour and explore Jebel Akhdal

    Enjoy a 3-hour boat trip along the coast on a dolphin watching tour before snorkelling the clear waters, home to beautiful corals and tropical fish.

    Next, head inland towards Oman’s ‘green mountain’ of Jebal Akhdar. Walk through the rose and fruit plantations, visit the abandoned village of Wadi Bani Habib and enjoy a picnic lunch at Diana’s View overlooking the terraced farming villages, which we visit in the afternoon before travelling back down to our hotel in Nizwa.

  4. Day 4: Jebel Shams hike (Oman’s Grand Canyon)

    Take the balcony trail along the mountain edge to another abandoned village and on to a small lake. Enjoy breaktaking views of the canyon and set off in 4WD vehicles down the mountain, stopping to meet the people of Nakhr village and see goat hair carpets being woven and dyed, then return to Nizwa.

  5. Day 5: Nizwa Fort & Wahiba Sharqiyah

    Explore Nizwa, the former capital of Oman and long regarded as the cultural capital and heart of Oman. Visit the immense 17th century fort, the nearby atmospheric souks and the rest of the city and surrounding areas before setting off for the rolling red dunes of the Wahiba Sands. Climb a dune to watch the sunset and enjoy a night of traditional Bedouin hospitality in a Bedouin tent.

  6. Day 6: Wadi Bani Khalid & Sur

    Free time to enjoy the sand dunes before transferring to Wadi Bani Khalid for a short hike and some swimming. This afternoon transfer to your Hotel in Sur.

  7. Day 7: Free time in Sur & visit to turtle nesting site

    This morning and this afternoon are left free to you enjoy some leisure time in Sur. This evening after an early dinner visit a turtle nesting site to spot turtles.

  8. Day 8: Fly back to the UK

  9. Days 8-11 : OPTIONAL EXTENSION: Musandam

    You can extend this trip with a stay in Musandam: Fly to Khasab, visit the fort and cave painting at Qadah and enjoy a dhow cruise through the ‘Fjords of Musandum’. Please contact us for prices and more information.
